VIDEO: A Stabilising Mobility Drill To Reduce Shoulder Pain

The shoulder pass through is a basic stabilising mobility drill to reduce shoulder pain.

In addition to being a nice warm-up and overhead shoulder mobility drill, it fulfils another purpose; it also provides an uncomplicated way to practice a critical aspect of shoulder control and stability.

I’m talking about being able to keep the shoulder ‘centered’ in the joint while you move it around. This is fundamental to nearly all upper body movement.

I like to use a relatively simple exercise like the shoulder pass through to introduce this concept to clients. It makes it easier to understand and feel how we ought to be moving the joint. Once you get that, you can apply it to more complex activities like overhead pressing, rows, upright rows, push-ups and so on. Just you your imagination.
