VIDEO: Are You Moving Your Shoulder Wrong When You Go Overhead?

The shoulder is a complex joint that needs to stay in the right position to stay safe and strong.

And the challenge gets tougher when we move overhead. Part of the challenge with overhead movement is having adequate mobility. Many many people are limited here and this will lead to compensation patterns. This ISN'T what we're talking about today.

Today we're talking about the other critical and often overlooked aspect of moving your shoulders overhead: motor control. You need to understand what ideal movement of the shoulder looks and feels like, and then you need to practice it over and over again.

When you get the basics down, then you can challenge the position with load, reps, fatigue, and so on, with the goal of maintaining excellent form under ever increasing levels of difficulty.
