VIDEO: Are High Box Jumps A Good Idea?
Tall box jumps are clearly very impressive to watch. Just check out the videos of several top NFL players and even the Guinness World Record box jump record. But is it a smart training tool to improve vertical jump and lower body explosiveness. I'd argue that the cons outweigh the pros.
If you troll around enough fitness websites or scroll through fitness focused Instagram feeds, changes are that you’ve seen someone attempting some ridiculously high box jumps. And while that’s a very cool looking demonstration of lower body power, it’s not the most practical training method if you’re trying to improve your hops.
Aside from some technique basics (I talked about a few keys in an old video here), there are a variety of methods to train explosiveness in jumping. That’s a topic for another day.
